What to Pack for Summer Vacation (That Supports Your Myo Journey)

Vacations are meant for rest and fun—but if you or your child are working on myofunctional goals, it helps to stay consistent while you’re away. The good news? You don’t need to bring your entire therapy toolbox. Just a few intentional items can make a big difference in keeping progress on track while still enjoying the summer break.

Here’s what we recommend tossing in your beach bag or carry-on:

✈️ The Myo Must-Haves

1. Chewy Tubes or ARK Tools

Great for car rides or downtime. These help keep the jaw and lips engaged while offering safe sensory input. Choose age-appropriate tools based on what you’re currently using in therapy.

2. Lip-Closure Straws

Regular straws? Not quite. Look for straws that encourage proper lip rounding and closure. We love using them with smoothies, water, or even those fun vacation drinks with umbrellas in them.

3. Nasal Spray

Dry airplane air or stuffy hotel rooms can lead to mouth breathing. A xylitol-based nasal spray (like Xlear) keeps nasal passages moist and supports nasal breathing even in new or unclean environments.

4. Travel-Size Flossers + Tooth Wipes

Keep oral hygiene easy on the go. Tooth wipes are perfect for little ones not yet brushing independently, and flossers make post-snack cleanup way easier during long travel days.

5. Snack Packs That Encourage Chewing

Think dried mango slices, jerky, or granola bars. These encourage the kind of longer, sustained chewing we like to support in therapy—plus they double as easy travel snacks.

 Optional (But Worth It!)

Myospots or Oral Rest Reminders – For kids or adults who are learning tongue posture

Nasal Strips or White Noise App – To encourage better sleep and relaxed breathing at bedtime

A small mirror – Especially helpful for kids practicing exercises or for visual feedback ☀️ A Gentle Reminder

Vacations are about connection—not perfection. Even if you skip a few routines or miss some exercises, that’s okay. The goal is to keep just enough consistency to maintain comfort, while still letting everyone relax.

Therapy doesn’t have to pause—just adjust. Bring the tools that make sense, and give yourself permission to rest, too.
